AI Assistance and Engagement
Using AI, whaat!?
Yes, I utilize language models to develop my ideas. By this I mean that I prompt the AI, typically ChatGPT, with an idea or question. I then engage in critical thinking with the AI’s guidance. It often provides in-depth reflections and asks me questions to help refine my ideas. I utilize it in 3 ways: conversation engagement, discourse pattern detection, and generalized research.
I learn and develop ideas best through communication. Unfortunately, people have busy lives. When human conversation isn’t available, I temporarily turn to AI.
I have realized that discourse is extremely powerful. By finding patterns in discourse, I can better communicate my ideas to a broader audience, confront my own communication bias, and learn more about human behavior.
The most taboo use, I do ask AI to perform generalized research. Let me explain the rationale. Like I said, people have busy lives! If I have a tool to gather and organize all of the articles I need on a particular topic, I’m going to take advantage of that. But of course, I ask for citations and then go out to find those articles. I do not read the articles through AI.
For example, there was one instance where I couldn’t find the article it was suggesting. So, I went back to ask if it was a mistake. It gave me a different title. Still didn’t work. Then, it gave me another title and page numbers. The page numbers were a bit off, but the title was right that time! I am aware that it has flaws. Everything has flaws.
That being said! I find great value in many of these conversations, but I cannot possibly write up an essay for every idea I have. I think… a lot. So, I will put some of my favorite interactions here. Click on the thread titles to witness the unfolding of my biggest projects.
If citing one of these conversations, please reference as: Art, Milo. (date). [“Title of Thread”]. [ChatGPT Interaction url].
Book Research
The birth of my extensive in-progress governmental model, “The Layered-Economic System” (2024)
The prompt that inspired this addition to my website is found in this thread, “Just a random thought. You know the dramatic scene in movies when a researcher dies and leaves behind all of his research for others to analyze. I think I will leave behind my username and password for ChatGPT.com. I do so much journaling on here. If someone read through my account’s conversations, they would get a fair feel for my ideas lol. I hope to publish my full thoughts first though. Reading through half finished research is one of the most frustrating parts of academia.”
